Hello Folks -

Over the last couple of issues, we looked at some different marketing programs to consider when writing your marketing plans. Today's focus is on implementation, one of the most critical aspects of marketing. In "Marketing - The Next Level," Dave Collins of SharewarePromotions Ltd. explains a bit about the definition of marketing and how to approach it. That is, with a consumer focus. "It's not about what you're trying to sell, it's about who you're trying to sell it to, what they want from you, and how to give it them."

"Marketing - All About Focus" gives some tips about problems that happen with applying marketing strategy to the real world. In both articles, Dave uses marketing software as an example, but you'll find that the principals apply equally well to your own products or services.

St. Louis Seminar: Frugal, Grassroots Book Marketing and Sunday Dinner with Shel Horowitz

Shel Howoritz, one of the best-known authorities on affordable, effective marketing is coming to St. Louis on Sunday, May 15 to give his grassroots marketing seminar. Shel's third marketing book, Grassroots Marketing: Getting Noticed in a Noisy World, was a finalist for ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Award. His fourth marketing book, Principled Profit: Marketing That Puts People First, became a top-10 best seller on Amazon.com.

The seminar is sponsored by the St. Louis Publishers Association (SLPA), and will focus on book marketing. Many of the Internet marketing methods, however, can be applied to other industries. You can find seminar and dinner details at http://www.websitemarketingplan.com/grassroots.htm. There is an early bird discount until tomorrow (Thursday, May 5).

I am Webmaster for SLPA, so will be working the event. Hope to see you there.

Enjoy!

Bobette Kyle

"Marketing - The Next Level" by Dave Collins

excerpt: "...marketing is not advertising. It's about finding out who you're trying to sell to, what exactly they want from you, and how to give it to them. It's that simple.

But to ignore marketing is more than dangerous; it's downright stupid. Don't make the mistake of assuming that good sales mean that you're already carrying out sufficient marketing. Without seeing where you stand, and what may be around the corner, you're effectively 100% blind, both to opportunities and threats, and won't even notice when they pass you by or hit you in the face."

"Marketing - All About Focus" by Dave Collins
http://www.websitemarketingplan.com/Arts/marketing-focus.htm

excerpt: "...one of the main problems with marketing is that while it makes complete sense when reading about it, applying it to the real world can often prove to be a different matter. One of the simplest and most effective ways to do so is to focus on the consumer.

How to attract new customers to your product and website is the constant quandary of many businesses, small or large."
