Note from Bobette Kyle
Strategy lessons from a movie, newsroom lingo

Hello All -

Today's feature article was inspired by the comedy "Daddy Daycare". Judging from the reviews I am one of the few folks who loved the film...not for the kiddie humor, but for the marketing strategy lessons! If you're a marketing person, you should see it - or just read my feature article "8 Lessons in Strategic Marketing, A La 'Daddy Daycare'".

Guest Article...

I had a guest article lined up - even had the article page done - when I received an email from public relations expert George McKenzie.

George has been guest author here twice in the past. I like him because he knows his stuff inside and out.  He is a 30-year veteran of TV and radio journalism. He's been everywhere from a small-town station in Pennsylvania to the major network news programs. He also teaches presentation skills, works as an emcee, and has published a variety of information programs.

He wrote, "Unfortunately, a medical situation has developed in my immediate family, and it's not covered by our insurance. So I'm putting almost all of my products into one big package and offering it at a huge discount to raise some money fast."

The email went on to detail the impressive contents of his new, comprehensive PR package along with a special price. As you probably know, I don't send out separate "solo" advertisements, so I cannot indulge him with a separate mailing. :-)

George does have some outstanding PR material, though, so I've decided to put him in this issue's Guest Article spot. "Talking The Talk: Learning The Lingo Of The Newsroom" is excerpted and condensed from his audio cassette series, which is part of George's limited time package.

He let me have access to the actual products included in his offer...it *really is* a comprehensive package on effective PR and it's "all George" - his interviews with other experts; his media contacts (more than 7,000 in a searchable, categorized database), reports, and templates for sending press releases; and his personal advice on generating publicity in a variety of situations.

I recommend that you first read "Going Public" to come up with public relations ideas for your company. The PDF report explains the "do's and don'ts" of seeking publicity and explains 10 approaches you can take.

Next, move on to George's advice on press releases - "Start Spreading the News" and "Instant Press Releases". Then, refine your understanding with some of the numerous interviews and tapes in the package.

When you are ready to implement, use George's 7,000+ media contacts, software (2 different programs), and other resources. Have a look here for more information:

Talking The Talk: Learning The Lingo Of The Newsroom

When you're trying to persuade a reporter to do a story about you or your business, you're much more likely to succeed if you know how to "talk the talk". No reporter will expect you to act like an insider, but you'll get a lot more respect -and attention - if you can speak the language of the newsroom.
