What to include in marketing plan, eMarketing, focus on the customer

Website Marketing Plan News, July 13, 2002

I received an unexpected bit of snail mail last week from The Midwest Book Review. I was nervous opening it - afraid it may be a bad review of my book. Surprise! It was a tear sheet from their “Bookwatch” and a nice letter from Editor-In-Chief James A. Cox. They published and sent a favorable review to several publications, including Gale Research Company, for their “Book Review Index”. In part, the review reads:

“How Much for Just the Spider? Strategic Website Marketing for Small-Budget Business by web marketing expert Bobette Kyle…is a superb guide and highly recommended for start-up and home business entrepreneurs new to the advantages and medium of the Internet.”

Please consider buying the book. It is available as PDF ebook or paperback. More information about the book is here.

If you have not already discovered the Emarketing Association, go on over to their site and take a look. Members are an international mix of eMarketing companies, professionals, and students. As a member, I find the association’s leaders both highly professional and personable - especially John Taylor, Online Education Instructor, and Cheryl Norton, VP Online Operations.

Cheryl asked me to give you a heads up about their Power of Emarketing Conference on September 5, 2002. They have put together an impressive lineup of speakers including S. Murray Gaylord (Yahoo! VP of Brand Marketing), Gabriela Linares (L-Soft/LISTSERV® VP Marketing), and Todd Daum (Overture VP Marketing).

I have rambled a bit, so to keep the newsletter a reasonable length, a summary only of today’s feature article, “What to Include in Your Marketing Plan Write-Up“, is included.

Today’s Spotlight article is from Doug Parr. “The One Vital Web Design Element That Virtually No One Is Telling You About” reminds us to keep the customer in mind when designing and maintaining our sites.

One of the more difficult issues when learning about online promotion is how to correctly send email advertisements. For experienced business people, it is logical to assume the same rules apply for email and postal mail marketing. Not so. In the spotlight, ClickZ’s Heidi Anderson and her readers help a reader understand the consequences.

On a more analytical note, my feature article “SWOT Analysis - Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats” explains how to complete a basic or more advanced SWOT analysis.
